Hey {{first_name}},

I hope you had a beautiful Easter long weekend and you're feeling recharged for the week ahead.

This week's episode is different.

It's only 11 minutes, but it could change how you think about your career for the rest of 2026 and beyond.

Because over the past few months, something has become very clear to me:

What we're seeing in the job market right now isn't just a temporary disruption.

This is the new normal.

Layoffs across the tech sector are accelerating, and AI is beginning to reshape how companies hire.

And many professionals are still operating with a career playbook that simply doesn't work anymore.

Since the start of 2026, tens of thousands of jobs globally have already been cut, and companies are restructuring around AI and efficiency.

I'm seeing it firsthand every single week in my recruitment business.

Here's what's changed:

Even 2 or 3 years ago, hiring briefs looked totally different.

Now companies are saying things like:

  • "We want to hire a software engineer who understands AI"

  • "We want someone with AI skills and exceptional human skills"

This is the direction the market is moving.

And yet, most professionals still don't understand how to navigate this new career landscape.

So I want to share five strategies you need right now to stay ahead in this new world.

And I'm going to focus on the most powerful one first, because it's the one most people overlook.

Strategy #1: Activate your network

85% of roles are filled through networks

If you're currently in the market, activating your network should be one of the first things you do.

But here's what most people get wrong:

They wait until they're desperate.

They only reach out when they need something, and by then, it's too late.

The best opportunities come from relationships you've been nurturing all along, not connections you scramble to reactivate when you're suddenly on the market.

So here's what you do:

Start by reaching out to people who have already seen you in action. Former managers, colleagues, mentors, and clients.

Let them know you're exploring new opportunities, and keep it simple:

"Hey [name], I wanted to reconnect and let you know I'm exploring new opportunities in [space]. If anything comes up that aligns with my background, I'd love to hear about it."

But networking isn't just about asking for help.

It's about staying connected with people you've worked with, engaging with their posts, sharing something interesting you've read with them, or supporting the work they do.

The best opportunities come from these conversations long before they ever reach a job board, and networking doesn't have to feel transactional or awkward.

It can be as simple as showing up to events where your industry is gathered. Where you can have real conversations and where you can meet people doing interesting work.

Because the more visible you are in the right rooms, the more opportunities naturally start to find you.

Which is exactly why we're hosting the next Sisterhood Social event.

On Thursday, April 23rd, we're bringing together three exceptional leaders for an evening we've called

Fearless & Future Ready: Women Leading and What's Next in Work, Leadership and AI.

We've got:

  • Fiona Hayes, CEO of 7-Eleven Australia

  • Julie Watkins, Chief People Officer at UniSuper

  • Erin Ashton, AI Enablement Leader at EY Oceania

This is the kind of evening where real conversations happen.

Where you meet women who are navigating the same challenges you are.

And where opportunities start before they ever hit LinkedIn.

Doors open at 6:30pm with drinks and canapés. We'll have a panel discussion, audience Q&A, and plenty of time to connect.

This is exactly the kind of room you want to be in right now.

The other four strategies:

In this week's episode, I break down the other four strategies every professional needs right now:

Strategy #2: Track the market demand. Do a simple market audit to understand what skills companies are actually hiring for.

Strategy #3: Position yourself for the future. Optimise your LinkedIn profile so recruiters can actually find you.

Strategy #4: Build a professional brand. Show up online and demonstrate your thinking and expertise in public.

Strategy #5: Develop AI fluency and human skills. Combine AI literacy with strong human judgment and interpersonal skills.

These five strategies aren't complicated. But they require you to be intentional.

Because one thing is becoming increasingly clear:

The era of passive careers is over.
